Linda Wales W45 41- (part 1) Comments Ian has summed up the essence of the event very nicely in the recent Epistle but here are my comments as well.
Warm dry weather ensured that it was pleasant evening to be running around the country park. Many thanks to Ian who kindly provided the pre-marked maps and for helping to clear up at the end and to Bob and Jackie who did a great job marshalling the start and finish.
Sadly some local Neanderthals found it amusing to vandalise 10 out of the 21 controls I'd put out just before the event started. 3 kites disappeared without a trace but maybe I'll find them in the winter once the vegetation dies back while the rest had punches pulled off before the kites where thrown into thick bunches of nettles or into the branches of trees. I raced round the courses twice to replace or retrieve controls but it was a losing battle.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening despite the setbacks and as the control sites were fairly distinct, people knew if the kite was missing and continued on. As a consequence I gave up trying to check that everyone's control cards where 100% correct but the finishing times , which were surprisingly close, are a fair representation of how people got on.
