First of all, I suspect most competitors were unaware that the organiser of this event, Stephen Nichols, had a cycling accident two weeks before the event. He fell off his mountain bike somewhere in the Kilnsey area.
He suffered severe spinal injuries and was transferred from Airedale to The Spinal Injury Unit at Sheffield.
He is out of Intensive Care now, fully conscious and breathing unaided. He is able to use his arms but as yet has no movement in his legs. His Son has emailed us to say that he had a reflex flinch when the consultant was examining his feet on the 4/11 Thursday, so we hope for more recovery.
Stephen had everything organised and ready to go. Mike Pownall and
I just had to pick up the reins and check that we were familiar with the arrangements.
Sadly Stephen had not organised the weather! On a sunny day the views are
stunning. However I have no doubt that the mist made it much more tricky.
Our thanks once more go to Yorkshire Water for allowing us to use this catchment area.
Finally, thanks to the EPOC helper team who ensured a trouble free event.

PS. I am hoping to get the Controllers comments in due course!
Planner's comments
Rishworth is a planner's
dream with less restrictions than most of our areas. I enjoyed the days
planning in brilliant sunshine. Luckily the mist descended this weekend
to give more challenging orienteering than usual.
Thanks to Rod Ryall
who remapped all the areas I used and helped put out and collect controls. Thanks
to Ian for controlling in such an unobtusive way (and helped collect controls).
Thanks to Fergus O'Brien for putting me straight on the mysteries of S.I. Thanks,
too to Dave Owen & Richard Wren for collecting with the moor clean by 4pm.
Thanks for competing
and for the generally favourable comments afterwards.
