Honley Wood District Event
Sunday 11th June 2006
Car Park. A new site at SE 120110 which has allowed for a different shape to the courses from recent events. The preferred approach is from Meltham, from where the event will be signposted (B6107 and B6108).
Terrain. Runnable, if steep, deciduous woodland on the slopes of a peaceful valley. There is a good path network but also contour detail and numerous rock features making for good orienteering at all levels.
Map. 1:10000, 5m contours. Rod Ryall has spent many hours in resurveying the area using the latest laser measuring devices. Premarked bagged maps. We will recycle competitors maps from the finish if absolutely neccessary, unless we find a way of printing them on-site.
Electronic. SI Dibber Controls.
Registration. 10am to 12 noon.
Courses. White to Brown, (but not a Red), and a free String Course for children. The string course is in a separate section of truly delightful grassy woodland close to the car park and will be suitable for small children.
Starts. 10.30am to 12.30pm. About 10 mins walk.
Finish. About 10 mins from car park.
Entry Fees. Seniors £4. Juniors £1.50. Students with cards £2.50.
Dogs. No problem if on a lead at all times.
Safety. Safety is the responsibility of the competitor. We are using the 'Buddy' system. Make sure you have a reliable buddy who will raise the alarm if you seem very late finishing. Lone competitors who cannot find a buddy should leave their car keys at the information and enquiries car. Courses close at 2.30pm prompt.
Newcomers. Those new to Orienteering will be very welcome at this event. Just bring along a compass if you have one and ask at enquiries.
Organiser. Amanda Crawshaw, EPOC.
Planner. Richard Wren, EPOC: "I've kept people generally in the nicest parts of the forest"
Controller. Pete Jones, AIRE.
