Control Descriptions.
Control Descriptions are on the website and on all maps.  Loose descriptions are available at the 2 starts.

String Course.
The free string course is adjacent to the Bus drop off point. Competitors are asked to travel there on the buses. However, there are a limited number of parking places close to the string course which can be used by parents in an emergency.
Please ask at Enquiries for travel directions.

Safety.
You take part in this event at your own risk.
Marsden Moor is a very high and exposed area, so dress appropriately.
In adverse weather conditions cagoules will be compulsory.
Competitors travelling alone are strongly advised to leave their car keys at Enquiries.
All competitors are advised to carry a whistle and a hat.

Finish.
There is one finish for all courses. Courses close at 2.30pm.
Orange will be available at the bus pick-up point.

Clothing.
There will be an informal clothing dump close to the Low Start. You will need to provide your own marked bag.

Map.
The map is at a scale of 1:10000 and has been revised and redrawn by Ian McMillan in 2006. All courses including colour coded courses will have pre-marked and bagged maps.
Courses 13 and 14 will have a map at a scale of 1:5000.
There are some sheep trods and motorbike/quadbike tracks which do not appear on the map. There is a difficult to run screen on the map which means what it says i.e. high tussocks.

Terrain.
The area is open moorland with good running and interesting contour detail on the higher parts. The lower slopes are rather tussocky but every effort has been made by the planner to avoid the worst of them. Bracken is marked on the map but at this time of year it is fairly easy to find a route through it.  Competitors on Courses 1 and 2 should note that the fences on the moor can be easily crossed. Courses 12, 13 and 14 are at the bottom end of BOF guidelines in terms of distance, but they are physically very tough. Parents are advised that if they have doubts about their child’s ability to cope with a course they should consider shadowing them or transferring them to an easier course. These courses may be shortened or even cancelled if river levels are very high.

Officials.
