Storthes Hall Woods Planners Comments

As some of you observed I had a sweaty run round in the humid air putting out controls, but was pleased to be ready to start just before the 1830 mark I'd promised. Apologies if you had a short wait or if you fell victim to my over zealous retrieval of the finishing controls at 2030!

The slightly overcast sky I think added to the disorientation of the wood in full leaf - I found myself having to think even holding a map and having been to control sites before at each turn.

The short course was a Yellow type and the very new comers did find the first control harder than I thought - although it was not made any easier by the newly fallen tree!

The medium course was a hardish Orange type course and a popular alternative to the Norwegian.

The Norwegian had 17 controls, with mixed leg lengths. Only one or two took it on without a blank map, but from comments I think there was enough challenge in finding a memorable route with a good attack point or catching feature for most even with a blank map to hand.

My thanks to Richard Wren and Jean Lockhead who helped collect in controls which ensured I went home before dark and to my family who helped with setting up and registration.

Richard should also be commended for the prizes; nice way to round off the series; and Amanda Crawshaw for sharing her Gingerbread.

I am indebted to Ian McMillan who printed and encapsulated the maps (including the Norweigian!), sorted out permissions and did a great job checking and commenting on my courses.

And thanks to you all for turning up and making my evening too!
