Newmillerdam District Event

Planners Comments

It was a real pleasure to plan in Newmillerdam. Despite its limited size it's a delightful wood and almost all of it is useable with fast running and good features marked clearly on Rod Ryall's new map. We were really keen to move the start / finish away from the usual spot by the Dam to give you a new view of the area and hope the walks were worth it.

I'm glad the schools event went well. The white and yellow courses benefitted tremendously from the advice of Colin Best as Controller and it was great to see the younger competitors really going for it. They did have to cope with the only technical hitch of the day, with control 33 needing a new box.

Orange was meant to take you through some of the nicest parts of the area, but also ended up being the wettest after the floods. I hope you still enjoyed it.

I struggle to get Light Green right, but with Colin and Amanda's input I think we got it "spot on" in the end. The area is just the right size for a demanding Green course and this allowed me to set a number of interesting route choice problems. I look forward to seeing where you actually went on Route Gadget.

The Blue course was designed to give you keep you off the paths in the main and allow you to enjoy the superbly runnable woodland before dealing with a few trickier controls near the finish. Changing down a gear was always going to be necessary to hit 16 and 17 spot on. Well done to those who did and were rewarded.

Finally, many thanks to Colin as controller, to Matt Cromack for helping me put all the controls out and to Jean and Martin for helping collect them.
