It's very tempting with an area like Stoodley Pike to
have lots of long legs across the moor, knowing how
popular this is I decided against it. The courses
where designed to use the best parts of the area and
to be as technical as possible given the limitations
of distance and terrain. You may also have noticed a
lot of controls out there (84 in total), this was to
try to, as much as possible, avoid several courses all
doing the same legs.
Winning times were on the long side but hopefully you
were having to think most of the way round and it
wasn't just a slog. Believe it or not, the courses
were planned to give the option of avoiding any
significant amount of bracken or tussocks. So to
those on courses 4, 5 and 9 who thought the tussocks
at the end were unnecessary, you were quite right.
Others with a craving for undergrowth were those on
course 6 who chose to run parallel to the path going
to number 12 and on course 3 who went straight from 8
to 9.
Apologies to competitors and parents of competitors on
courss 11 and 12 for not having the maps available
before the start. This wasn't a deliberate attempt to
make things more difficult (or an "in my day" way of
toughening up the youth of today) it was simply an
oversight and again sorry if this caused problems.
Thanks for taking part, it was very enjoyable sitting
on top of the hill watching you all compete.
