Deffer Wood
District Event & Great Day Out!
Sunday 18th May 2008
Car Park. Pay-and-display at Cannon Hall Farm SE/268083.
Follow brown “tourist” signs from the A635 between Barnsley
and Denby Dale. Follow O signs through Cannon Hall to the Farm car park.
There are permanent toilets, tea rooms, gift and farm shops in the show
farm complex. Families should take advantage of the show farm, which includes
an adventure playground.
Terrain. Superb mixed woodland with some contour detail
and a well-defined path network.
Map. Revised in 2008 by Ian McMillan. 1:10000, 5m contours.
Premarked maps.
E-punching. Will be used at this event.
E-cards are available if you don’t have your own. There is no charge
but you will have to reimburse us to the tune of £20 if you lose
it. If you haven’t used e-punching before, don’t worry, its
easy and will be explained to you before you start.
Registration. 10am to 12 noon.
Courses. White to Brown and a free String Course for
children, close to Car Park and Start.

Starts. 10.30am to 12.30pm. About 10 mins walk.
Finish. About 10 mins from car park.
Entry Fees. Seniors £4.50. Juniors £2.00.
Extra maps 50 pence.
Dogs. No problem if on a lead at all times. No dogs
in the farm.
Safety. Safety is the responsibility of the competitor.
We are using the 'Buddy' system. Make sure you have a reliable buddy
who will raise the alarm if you seem very late finishing. Lone competitors
who cannot find a buddy should leave their car keys at the information
and enquiries car. Courses close at 2.30pm.
Newcomers. Those new to Orienteering will be very welcome
at this event. Just bring along a compass if you have one and ask at
enquiries.
