It was great fun planning this informal event; and always good to see some new faces.
Unlike the couple of half days I spent up at the farm in preparation, which were glorious in their
sunshine, and the afternoon putting out which was grey but dry, the evening was filled with
refreshing rain, and coupled with half term was probably the cause of the low turnout. I'll apologize
on Dickie's behalf for there not being a prize giving as advertised – but I don't know what happened
there!
For the stalwarts and brave hearts that did turn out, there was however the prize of a drying barn at
the end and a lovely spread of food put on by Chris, Sue and family which was very much appreciated
with donations being made to Sue Ryder care.
Thanks are also due to Chris and Sue for use for the area, to Mike for checking the courses and Ian
for printing the maps. This took a little sorting out for the “Window” course! Thanks too to Mike
and Alistair for venturing out again to help collect in which meant I started for home before dark.
As you'll see, the Long Window course was quite tough (4.7km 200m of climb in two parts) by
informal standards, and took a little to get used to for most; running on a rough bearing and
ignoring similar features that appear too quickly en-route. Some opted to do one part or take a blank
map with them, (having had a go to begin with without). The short too was a tricky and longish
Yellow (2km 80m climb) to round off the series.
