Rishworth Event
Organisers Comments
Firstly thank you all for coming to the event in what must have been very adverse conditions when you set off (and apologies to whoever sent me a text message at 8.15 asking if the event was still on - in the rush of the day I didn't see it until after I got home this afternoon). I had spent a fairly sleepless night listening to the rain lashing down and had wondered what was going to be in store for us when I heard the awful stories coming out of the Lake District on the 6am news. However, as it happened most of you managed to see some sunshine on Rishworth Moor and might have even had time to enjoy the view from Dog Hill, despite the awful conditions underfoot.
The event coincided with the OMM and the start of half term, both of which reduced the pool of EPOC helpers, so I am greatly indebted to everyone who was able to assist. The experiment of reserving the nearest parking spaces for families with small children was not a success on the day. The lack of a string course (due to the shortage of manpower) and the poor weather conditions meant that we didn't have many families turn up, and this meant that some of you were parked some distance from assembly when we ended up with some empty spaces close by, for which I can only apologise.
Thanks to everyone who hung on for the YHOA prize-giving - which was almost, but not quite, error free! The trophies which weren't collected will eventually find their way back to YHOA club reps.
Many thanks also to Alastair Harvey of Yorkshire Water and Natural England for permissions, to local farmers Mrs Stott and Mr Schofield who have sheep on the moor, and to the guys from Halifax & Brighouse St John Ambulance for their services.
I have been asked to pass on thanks to the person who handed in the pair of O-shoes and which have already been claimed. Otherwise found property amounts to 1 compass and 1 whistle.
