Ogden Water Regional & Ivor Noot Memorial Event

Controllers comments

I was just about to retire as a controller when I got the call to control this event. What a fitting way to end 27 years as a controller with an event for one of orienteering’s best loved characters. Ivor was the first EPOC member we spoke to when Val and I moved across from Preston and SROC. He really made us welcome and we felt we had found another friendly club to join. That was 20 years ago and it turned out to be a good decision to join EPOC.

Ogden is a lovely area at all times of the year but from an orienteering point of view is at its best in winter when the bracken is down and the brambles are low. The heather’s still as challenging though as pointed out on the bulletin board! Jonathan didn’t give me much to do so I had an easy ride really. He made excellent use of the woods and you were never more than 100 metres from a control though hopefully they weren’t too visible.

It was pleasing to get over 400 entries and I hope you all enjoyed the day. Comments at the finish indicated that you did.

Thanks to you all for attending and I hope Ivor is pleased with the event.
