Deffer Wood Informal Orienteering Event
Wednesday 13th May 2009
Times: Registration from 6pm till 7pm. Starts from 6.30pm till 7.30pm.
Courses close at 8.30pm.
Car Park: From A635 between Denby Dale and Cawthorne, turn northward following brown tourist signs to Cannon Hall. Continue past car parks for Cannon Hall. Park on roadside at SE 268 086.
Terrain: Predominantly runnable woodland with carpets of bluebells and some areas of undergrowth. Well developed track and path network making for great route choice on the longer courses.
Map: 1:10,000, 5m contours, updated spring 2009.
E-punching: Will be used at this event. E-cards are available if you don’t have your own. There is no charge but you will have to reimburse us to the tune of £20 if you lose it. If you haven’t used e-punching before, don’t worry, its easy and will be explained to you before you start.
Results: Your result will be available at the finish and full results will appear on the EPOC web site.
Refreshments: There may be some water available at the finish.
Dogs: Dogs on leads only please – this is a condition of use of the
area.
Fees: Adults £2, Juniors/Students £1
Courses: Short 2.4 km suitable for novices (all on tracks and paths).
Long 5.7km – “Traffic lights” course, for more experienced
orienteers. Long legs with route choice to make you run fast and think about
attack points; interspersed with bursts of short and tricky legs (control
picking) to slow you down and make you concentrate!
Medium approx 4.0 km – collect all the controls from the long course,
in any order.
