Organisers Comments I like Oakwell and enjoyed watching friends and family charging around its environs before a very relaxed picnic. Thanks to Graham for trying something new, which seemed to work, to Alistair and Dickie, Guy and Judith at the Starts, to the Harrison family for registration, to Sue and Amanda for String and to Richard our Controller. And of course thanks to Graham for dealing with the unusual results requirements. It would perhaps have been better if the Planner hadn't broken down on the A58 (thanks Alistair for the recovery job), if the gates had been open as planned and if there had been less rabid dog owners (note rabid owners not dogs) and random junkies stumbling around the place. Not a huge turnout but a very pleasant Sunday. Thanks to all who came. Paul Planners Comments. I was a little disappointed (I agree - Ed) by the low turnout to this event. I am sure the word sprint put a few off! It wasn't really a sprint race, but a loop race at speed. I first did a loop race in Switzerland, where each competitor was to run
either loop A or loop B. There were 2 mass start 10 minutes apart. Once
in the wood it was hard to follow as both loops were similar, there may
have been gaffles, and At Oakwell I wanted to do something similar, and judging by the positive comments, I achieved my objectives. Fun, head to head competition, over relatively quickly, and if we'd had more entries have a prizegiving. I will do an event like this again, but only if we get a goodly number of people coming. Thanks to those who did come. Thanks also to Richard Payne who spotted all my deliberate mistakes, the
map planning side was quite difficult when juggling 10 balls at once. (Note
to self, don't agree to plan 2 running events and a residential experience
at Huge thanks to Alistair who rescued me on the A 58 when the fan belt snapped and I lost water pumpage to the incredibly expensive engine! Thanks to all the helpers who had to get to grips with the competitions structure! Graham |
