Controller’s comments

Newmillerdam is not the most technical of areas, but it certainly is a great little area for fast and pleasurable orienteering.   Sunday saw a lovely day, for most of the runners anyway, just a shower or two nearer the end, and I’m sure you all appreciated the runnability of the forest (such a change from brambles & brashings) and the good courses that Alistair had provided. I certainly enjoyed being in the forest whilst checking the controls.

The decision to switch this event to Newmillerdam was taken with only a few weeks to go, so it was a bit of a rush job to get the planning and controlling done in time, but all turned out successful in the end.   Alistair made my job pretty easy, with good courses from the start and only small adjustments and a little bit of advice needed.  Not only that he also put a lot of effort into arranging the event, so you should all be grateful to him (and the rest of the EPOC team) for such a well run & enjoyable event.

The problem with the one start box was of course very unfortunate. Given the numbers of competitors who were affected before it was discovered it left little choice really but to ignore the first leg on the Green, Blue & Brown courses.  I hope no one’s too annoyed about that – you still had a great time in the forest !
