Organiser's Comments.
Thank you to all those of you who came today, to help and
to compete. I spoke to quite a few competitors and apart from the climb
back from the finish, the vast majority seemed to enjoy their courses.
Thank you very much to Mytholmroyd Scouts who were very efficient in their
provision of soup and snacks, and thank you to all those who supported
them. My biggest concern since January, had been the weather. It had to
be either: REALLY bad in the week leading up to the event, so we knew well
in advance that it could not go ahead, or: really nice. In the end it was
fortunately the latter. If I could have I would have organised for the
cloud to come a lot later and that breeze to be a little warmer, apparently
it was really warm down in the valley! The view of the Castle ruins with
the sun shining directly on it at 8:30 this morning was superb. I hope
that we have some pictures to add so that you too can see it.
I am very sorry that one person at least did not get to run the course he had
entered, as the last map had gone, and the recycling had not got there quickly
enough. I think we have all learned a valuable point about setting up some sort
of check, I don't know what, but something to mull over. Fortunately the other
person I know did not get the course of his choice (and was a helper) was jolly
glad when he saw the course he would have done!
Finally thank you VERY much to all those of the club members who gave up their
time to help. Without you events could not go ahead, especially as the vast majority
of today's helpers were people who volunteered rather than being co-erced, that
always makes organising an event a less stressful occasion.
Thank you again Rebecca Lloyd.
PS. I am also impressed with myself as I towed the caravan back to its home without
any trouble at all!! The first time I have towed a caravan on anything but big
main raods, and I only did that once about 10 years ago.
