Regional Urban Orienteering Event

Preliminary Details

Venue: The complex network of steep, narrow lanes and ginnels around Holmfirth town centre is interspersed with parks, playing fields and areas of deciduous woodland and offers navigational and physical challenges to the orienteer.

Assembly: Assembly, Start and Finish are at Sands Rec (GR SE146090), close to all main bus routes to Holmfirth. Car parking is available next to Assembly thanks to Holmfirth Round Table in return for a £2 donation to charity. We are sharing the Rec with the Round Table for the day. After the race, competitors will be able to enjoy a Gala with small fun fair, stalls, games, food, drink etc., a Duck Race and the start of Holmfirth Art Week.

Courses: There are five courses, in line with BOF Guidelines:
1 Men Open
2 Veteran Men (M40+); M16/18; Women Open
3 Super Veteran Men (M55+); Veteran Women (W40+); W16/18
4 Ultra Veteran Men (M70+); Super Veteran Women (W55+)
5 M14- W14- (will not cross roads)

Entry on the day (+£1 for seniors)

Registration and Dibber hire/collection from 9.00-11.00.

EOD will first use up the overprinted maps for their course, then choose a course with spare maps.
Electronic Punching:  Will be used at this event for all courses. Please be sure to insert your Dibber number on the entry form if you have one. If you do not have your own Dibber they can be hired and paid for on-line, or on the day at Registration for £1 senior. £0.50 junior.

Starts: Early to avoid traffic and heat (?), from 09.30 to 11.30. Start times will not be allocated before the event.

Safety: Competitors will be responsible for their own safety. A buddy system will be in operation. People travelling alone should leave their keys at Registration with their particulars.
