Comment by Guest. Submitted at 09:36 on Friday 9-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Badge times Thanks for a great event. It is fun to look at all the routes on routegadget etc. and for the effort everyone put in to adding their routes and for the tech support to make it all work.. Can anyone indicate when the official results and badge times will be added to the results? Thanks |

Comment by Alastair Mackenzie of CLOK. Submitted at 13:27 on Thursday 8-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: RouteGadget fix I've now applied the fix to all the courses that were affected by the SI boxes that failed to wake up for the event, so the animations should all be okay. Bear in mind that nominal split times have been inserted for the affected controls -- i.e. 165, 168 and 175 -- so the animation may not be accurate for the legs immediately before and immediately after these controls. If you find any Marsden Moor RouteGadget animations that still don't look right then please post a message to this bulletin board or contact the EPOC webmaster. |

Comment by Darren Baker of DEE. Submitted at 13:49 on Wednesday 7-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Fence Ooops, sorry meant to Control 17 not 16. |
|
Comment by Darren Baker of DEE. Submitted at 23:08 on Tuesday 6-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Fence I took the line adjacdent to the fence because a good attack point to the control was used with the fence corner. Not knowing what the terrain was like inside the enclosure (slow run), as opposed to what turned out to be a good line along the fence was my thoughts. Also as i knew the control after meant going back on myself, i could look to see an appropriate line to the next control (16). |

Comment by Graham the Planner of EPOC. Submitted at 18:07 on Tuesday 6-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Route gadget fix Thanks Alistair for taking the time to fix it! I have really enjoyed seeing where people went and I certainly enjoyed looking at the mistakes people made, where they were meant to make them, if you see what I mean!! |

Comment by Alastair Mackenzie of CLOK. Submitted at 22:58 on Monday 5-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: RouteGadget fix I've found a partial solution to the problems with the RouteGadget animations. Basically, the split times that should have been provided by the faulty SI boxes were missing from RouteGadget's data set. This meant that, for example, RouteGadget didn't have any split times for control #11 on Course 3. When it needed to use a competitor's split time for control #11 it was using the next time in its list, which was the competitor's split time for control #12. Then, when it needed the split time for control #12 it was using the split time for control #13. And so on. This meant that the split times were out of sync with the controls for the rest of the course, which made the animations look rather odd. What I've done is to insert nominal split times at the appropriate places in RouteGadget's data set. I've calculated these nominal split times on the basis of the relative lengths of the legs immediately before and after each affected control, so they should be reasonable for most competitors. However, if anyone made a navigational error on either of these legs then that won't be reflected in the split times, so the animation will not look right for these two legs. At least inserting the nominal split times re-synchronises the split times with the controls for the rest of the course, so the animation should be okay apart from the legs before and after the faulty control(s). Doing the correction is a rather manually intensive job, and so far I've only done Courses 1 and 3. I hope to be able to get the other affected courses -- i.e. 2, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12 -- sorted out over the next few days. |

Comment by Graham the Planner of EPOC. Submitted at 22:01 on Monday 5-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Why did you all go round the fence on the moor? Looking at route gadget a lot of competitors went round the fence on the Moor rather than through, did you think it Out Of Bounds, the green screen was for heather/bracken not tussocks? Can someone enlighten me please? |

Comment by Chris Kirkham of MDOC. Submitted at 17:20 on Monday 5-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Splitsbrowser Splitsbrowser seems to work if you untick the "time loss" box - bottom right. (By default it is ticked ....) Nice event - thanks! |

Comment by C Toop of Ebor. Submitted at 11:13 on Monday 5-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Mr Wood - A bit sluggardly?? Are we missing something here? According to the results Alistair Wood won M50L and course 3 outright. If that was a 'sluggardly' run what's a good one? Well done though, if you look at RouteGadget without the Mass Start function, you were last off, at least I was at #5 when the rain got torrential. Might've packed in otherwise. |

Comment by Alastair Mackenzie of CLOK. Submitted at 23:29 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Splitsbrowser and RouteGadget The problem with Splitsbrowser will be due to the control boxes that failed to wake up for the event. Splitsbrowser can't cope if a course includes a control that ALL of the competitors appear to have missed. The missing split times are also causing some problems in RouteGadget. If you look at the animation of the fastest two runners on Course 3 you can see that on the second half of the course the split times are out of synch with the controls. The two runners seem to be going very fast indeed on some of the long legs and surprisingly slowly on some of the short legs. I may be able to do something to sort out this problem, but it will take at least three or four days because I'm going to be very busy with other things over the next few days. |

Comment by Alistair Wood of AIRE. Submitted at 23:04 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Weather and Course 3 Bit like some days when you're out on your bike and the wind ALWAYS seems to be against you. The usual practice of asking for a late start backfired badly, and I guess 1 or 2 M50s are asking what happened to Mr Wood today - bit sluggardly?. Well, yes. I thought I ran well but was thoroughly beaten by the rain weather I'm afraid and it led to two errors. Enjoyed the day all the same and thanks Mr Planner. Good course. 8 was only a bit of a doggy-leg. That knee-high grass on the long leg was unique wasn't it???!! - the path route would have been better in retrospect. |

Comment by Chris Burden of AIRE. Submitted at 21:52 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Route Gadget. gone manic Just had great fun viewing Martin Ward's run on Route Gadget. Soon after rounding March Hill he suddenly starts having outbreaks of supersonic speed on some of the long legs, even where navigational errors are thrown in. These are followed by virtual (in every sense of the word) standstills on some short legs which were navigationally perfect. Presumably the product of malfunctioning controls on the actual course. Makes the whole thing quite surreal. Thanks for an enjoyable run. I've just about warmed up. |

SUBJECT: What a Brill Day I am just wanting to thank you for an absolutely Brillent event I thought corse3 was planned well and i even tought the wether added a sense of adventure. Only one down fall is I twisted my ankle but it looks like every one else did so at leased I'm not the only one. Chears Josh Beech (Ebor) |

Comment by Darren Baker of DEE. Submitted at 20:44 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Great event Well done to the Planner, Course two was very enjoyable particularly controls 10 to 17 on the open moorland, a bad route choice to 18 (direct along the line over tussocks covered in wispy grass, should have taken the path). Would have been VERY interesting in the mist, slow some of the speedsters down. |

Comment by Elaine Sutton of DEE. Submitted at 20:36 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Course 4 This was my 1st event at W40L and it was "interesting". I managed to twist my left ankle not once but twice and it is now resting on the sofa beside the size of a house. I wouldn't of missed it for the world. Well done to all the team involved and the mini bus was a very welcome site at the end of the lane. |

Comment by Dick Spendlove of EPOC. Submitted at 19:58 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. As a late helper, I was very fortunate to get a totally dry run, in fact it was great to be first starter at about 10am as I didn't see another runner for 45 minutes. I too got caught out by #153 (no.8 on course 4) searching below the first section of wall along the road. However, looking again at the map I should have realised a lot quicker that the wall beyond that one was much closer than the next one shown on the map, which is 250m further away. Thanks, Graham, I really enjoyed the course. |

Comment by Graham the Planner of EPOC. Submitted at 19:28 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Course 2 Quote "One minor question regarding #6 (153). At the edge of the road where streams emerged there were short sections of wall, there was one above #6 mapped but also one above the previous stream (not mapped). The crag seemed to be further down the stream than the map suggests." End Quote. If you look at my main comments you'll see an answer, but briefly, when planning in 2005!!!! I didn't notice those little walls were missing from the map, but there was significant bracken growth and the odd bit of burnt out car up there, I considered mapping the car parts! I think they have all gone now! That may have obscured some of the wally things. When planning I thought the crag in the wrong place too, but when measuring it was bang on give or take a couple of yards. Quote"Section 6 to 11 was really nice."End Quote Thank you! |

Comment by Graham the Planner of EPOC. Submitted at 19:21 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: How can I be writing comments at 16:30 Well, you log on to your computer, get up the right web page and you type your comments?? Seriously though, the way I planned the courses was such that the controls could be collected from the top road swiftly, Dickie Wren's incredible lick of speed gathering them in instead of me helped too!The competitors were off the area by about 13.45! We'd already watched them go through and started to collect them from about 13:00. Sorry Mr R.A. if we caught you out I was under the impresion you'd been and gone! In fact, Anthony G, I'd already had a bath before I put on my comment!!! |

Comment by David McCann of MDOC. Submitted at 18:17 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Course 2 I enjoyed the course today, despite a rather large mistake going from 16-17 which should provide some amusement when it goes on route gadget. One minor question regarding #6 (153). At the edge of the road where streams emerged there were short sections of wall, there was one above #6 mapped but also one above the previous stream (not mapped). The crag seemed to be further doen the stream than the map suggests. Section 6 to 11 was really nice. |

Comment by Mike Winter of AIRE. Submitted at 17:15 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. Thanks all for a great and well organised event. Really good to have finally done it after a 12 month wait from last year. Nice and technical in places and physical too. Managed a couple of spectacular falls towards the end and was greatful for the soft ground! |

Comment by C Toop of Ebor. Submitted at 15:45 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. SUBJECT: Start boxes Could someone check that the start boxes were operating on the same times. My wife and I set off at the same minute, I punched the left hand box before she punched the right one, and I finished before her. However, according to our download slips I was out for longer (by a minute). The only explanation I can come up with is the start boxes had different times, any other reasons anyone can come up with? Otherwise, it was horrible out there, but only because of the weather! Though I could have done without the long leg on course 3. |

Comment by Michael Hood of SELOC. Submitted at 15:23 on Sunday 4-Mar-2007. Very well organised event. Thanks to all those who put in the hard work. Glad I didn't start late when the heavy rain was already coming down. I feel that the only downside of this type of area is that you can see where lots of other people are going. However, against that, several of the controls were well placed so that it was still quite easy to make mistakes - would have been interestng if it'd all been in cloud/mist! |
