Comment by Jon Emberton of EPOC. Submitted at 22:45 on Wednesday 28-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Planning Well spotted Andrew Tarr - the only one as far as I can tell! Actually we co- planned it last time but Ivor definately takes the credit! A big thanks for making the route gadget work despite my best attempts to sabotage it. This has been one of the real hits of the weekend .. 93 routes! and fascinating viewing. cheers |

Comment by Jackie Chapman of LOC. Submitted at 21:48 on Wednesday 28-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Route Gadget Very enjoyable event, thanks to all at EPOC. Please would some W50Ls put their routes up - particularly the ones who beat me! - come on now ladies, don't be modest. |

Comment by Anthony G of EPOC. Submitted at 20:14 on Tuesday 27-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Route Gadget 84 routes so far added out of 400. Must be a record? |

Comment by Andrew Tarr (M65) of DEE. Submitted at 14:37 on Tuesday 27-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Planning No one below seems to have commented on the (I presume deliberate) reissue of Ivor's course(s) from early 2005. At any rate my course was almost identical; 3 or 4 controls had moved about 50 metres, one to include a visit to Ivor's Knoll (it's a d*** big knoll, that). I was glad to spare a thought for the old chap in passing through. |

Comment by Ali Wood of AIRE. Submitted at 00:00 on Tuesday 27-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Route choices Having read David's comment, I would suggest that if a comparison between two radically different routes reveals little difference in time, then that is intriguing - but not completely good.... where the planner should really be commended is when two routes turn out to be different in time, the inferior route having been more tempting to the average orienteer, but on careful inspection having a fundamental flaw. I am sure that there will have been examples of this on Sunday on several courses. Re. my comments about the mapping of paths - I agree and sympathise with Rod on the condition of the forest tracks and paths, it was very difficult to portray what was on the ground especially with runners and walkers trampling the wet mud. |

Comment by Martin (Results) of EPOC. Submitted at 20:30 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Badge and Colour Standard Times Thank to you all who spotted the mistakes and Mike for helping find where it was going wrong - a mixture of finger trouble on my part and a badge time calculator spreadsheet that has some out of date rules in for working them out which we hope is now right! |

Comment by Olly of DEE. Submitted at 20:09 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Badge times Thanks for putting them right. |

Comment by Mike Pownall of EPOC. Submitted at 19:40 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Corrected badge times I've spotted a few errors in the calculations and corrected them. These will be online shortly. Apologies for this. |

Comment by Rod of EPOC. Submitted at 17:44 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Paths Im so sorry that Alis daughter couldnt make head or tail of the way paths were shown in the wood. Leaf fall certainly makes the mapping difficult in mid-November they mostly all but disappear, but by late January become much clearer. I took the conservative approach that only paths that had some kind of surface would be shown by the continuous dash line symbol. Other routes were shown by the less distinct path symbol. Where the surface was about vehicle width, the large path symbol was used, and where the track was clearly used by vehicles, the track symbol was used. However, there were apparently inconsistencies I guess between the use of large and small path symbols - and I thank Ali for drawing this to attention. |

Comment by David Alcock of AIRE. Submitted at 16:13 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: A similarly intriguing leg... Following on from Ali Wood's comment, it's intriguing to note that the top two on the M21L (Oli Johnson and Matt Crane) took totally different routes on leg 5 to 6 (similar to course 4's 7 to 8) - and yet took exactly the same time to execute them! |
|
Comment by Mike Pownall (controller) of EPOC. Submitted at 13:33 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Suspect badge times I will check all the badge standards tonight and correct as necessary as some do look suspect. Apologies for these errors. |

Comment by Andy Brook-Dobson of Claro. Submitted at 09:47 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Lost Dog I was the mad man running around for our Cocker Spaniel "Iris" who had got lost during the event. Fortunately, she was found by a kindly local soul who called my wife's mobile which is on her collar (Iris' not my wife's!) and I was able to pick her up safe and sound; although the search did increase my running mileage more then anticipated! Just a quick note to say thanks for a great event and also for all those who may have helped look for her. |

Comment by Oliver Williams of Deeside. Submitted at 08:26 on Monday 26-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: JM5S I really enjoyed the event. Is there a problem though on the JM5S badge times? |

Comment by Ali Wood of AIRE. Submitted at 23:03 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Course 4 Nice course 4, intriguing leg 7-8 I had thought my straightish route to be the best one but on RG and splits it is definitely a close call. The heather was as bad as I've ever known on the moor, do others agree? Has it put on a spurt these last years?! Or are my legs shrinking? Agree with other competitors, some controls were a giveaway because of runners heading out in the opposite direction. Only criticism would be the way the paths in the wood are sometimes mapped, nightmare for the mapper - my daughter could not make head or tail of the different sizes of paths. Thanks everyone for a good day out. |

Comment by Andrew Suddaby of BL. Submitted at 21:25 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. Thanks to all at EPOC for a very enjoyable event - The area provides a nice mixture of running terrain and course 6 was excellent. It was a lovely touch to re-visit Ivor's knoll. I almost felt that he was watching and telling me to get a move on! |

Comment by Paul B. of SYO. Submitted at 20:10 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Badge times Very impressed at speed of publishing results, and of Badge times. Not sure if they are all correct, e.g. gold on courses W50S, JM5L, JM5M.Route gadget also up very quickly. 2nd time we have run here, quite a contrast in the weather, very sunny last time. Also shows how we have progressed as a family, our first ever badge event was here in 2006. As last time enjoyed running on this varied area. |

Comment by Paulette Noot of EPOC. Submitted at 19:53 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Myeloma UK Many thanks for all your support today. Sorry for those who missed out on the soup, I should have made an extra gallon! The donations were very generous enabling me to forward £611 to Myeloma UK. |

Comment by David Alcock of AIRE. Submitted at 19:44 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Today Thanks to all concerned with today's race - it was rough and tough on the moor, contrasting with the fast and furious forest! If I was to be picky (and I don't like to be picky as I'm finding out how much work goes into planning and organising events), I'd say that finding the otherwise difficult controls 127 and 126 (leg 7 to 8 on M21L) was made slightly easier due to the fact that these controls were used on another course in reverse, so there was a bit of an 'ant-like' journey between these controls if you were 'lucky'. However, overall, the rest of the course was very challenging and well worth the journey! Thanks for the refreshment counter too! |

Comment by Alex Kilcoyne of SYO. Submitted at 18:59 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Photos and Thanks Brilliant course, really enjoyed the mix of wood and moor. As I was running, fairly near the start there was a guy taking photos. I was just wondering if these are going to be posted anywhere? I'm doing an Art project based on outdoor activities and these would be really useful. Thanks for a great day! |

Comment by Charlie Boyce. Submitted at 18:57 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. We all really enjoyed today's event. Thanks to the organisers for all their effort. Evie, Izzie, Kate and Charlie |

Comment by Anthony G of EPOC. Submitted at 18:53 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Time order I wonder why the names on the courses in RG are not in time order? |

Comment by Chris Littler of CLWD. Submitted at 18:25 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Splits My daughter Cari Littler mispunched today on the last contol on JW5M. Her results don't show up on splitsbrowser, and, whilst she was the only runnner in that category, it would be interesting to compare her splits to those of other ages who ran course 5. Obviously this is not high priority, but perhaps you could let me know whether it can be done and if you might time to do so. That would be much appreciated. This was the second time we have been to Ogden, the first being just over two years ago when we had just started orienteering. We have very fond memories of our first event there (when the whether was glorious), and was good to back again. I think it's a lovely area with both the forest area and the moors to contend with. Anyone know the answer to this? Martin on results wants to know! |

|
Comment by Emma of EPOC. Submitted at 17:18 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Courses Great planning Jonathon - I enjoyed the fact you used a lot of the wood as I found it a real slog on the moor! Glad the weather stayed OK as well! |
|
Comment by Guy Goodair of EPOC. Submitted at 16:48 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. Well the weather forecast was wrong - thank goodness! Enjoyed my course and think it was a nice touch on Jonathan's part to include 'Ivor's knoll' (100) on just about every course. Ivor will no doubt be looking down on us and thinking 'Job well done!' |

Comment by Anthony G of EPOC. Submitted at 15:54 on Sunday 25-Jan-2009. SUBJECT: Signs Just arrived home, and I must make an apology. I was responsible for signs, as well as driving the bus. But I assumed that finishers were coming out of the wood through the top carpark and would see the minibus. So, I realise now that a sign was needed as you came from the reservoir into the road to point left for minibus, and right for walking. Sorry. Good job it was a fine day! |
