SUBJECT:   Ranking
Martin says:
It's not been submitted because the person at BOF who can tell me how to do it is on holiday.

SUBJECT:   Ranking
We are a bit disappointed that no ranking results appear to have been submitted to BOF.
On a more positive note, enjoyed the run.
I thought turnout was about what would have been expected.
I found the photo of castle carr in the snow very scenic, and thought it would be nice to run there.
Having a night event on the same area may put people of going to both events?

Re. the poor turnout - It was the 1st weekend of half-term so many people may have gone away. The event was a bit more pricey than some -although this was clearly explained to be because of the need for the minibus. We actually walked to assembly but I was very glad for the ride back to the car!
Maybe more phtos of the grounds etc would have helped. I am very glad I went though - others missed a good day out!

Thanks for your reply, Charlie. I think all your comments are valid. I think probably we did not push the event hard enough, as the area was very wet in Nov/Dec, and we had not worked out a parking strategy. In the event, the parking arrangements were fine. The weather in the days before was dry, and on the day, wonderful!

You're asking the wrong people as we are the ones who did come. You really need to ask those who didn't!

A couple of possibilities:
1. Marketing. You could have made more of the fact that it was an area not used for over ten years. A terrain description mentioning some of the features of the old country estate falling into disrepair might have attracted some.
2. Why wasn't it the first race in the new Yorkshire Superleague?
3. Entry date. I think you need to have a deadline 5 to 7 days before the event to focus minds and give you time to get maps printed.

We were a little disappointed at the turnout at this event. Why do you think this happened? With a week to go, we only had 30 entries! Makes map printing a bit of a lottery!

SUBJECT:   course lengths
Clearly, the course lengths were too ambitious! Our apologies to any competitors who found it too much.

The Black course length was determined using results from similar moorland areas and events but not from Castle Carr itself because the area hasn't been used for so many years. In particular, Ogden's 2009 results for M21L were used because it's an adjacent and similar area. This seemed a reasonable basis for our course length for Black but, with hindsight, we misjudged.

One of our aims was to enable the shorter courses to visit the best bits of the valley but, in relating these course lengths to the Black, these also became too challenging.

Value for money though, wasn't it!?

Thanks EPOC for an enjoyable day out.

I thought the courses were well planned and made good use of the area. Obviously they were a little on the long side, but this didn't spoil my enjoyment at all.
I wonder how the planners decided on the lengths?
Black should be won in 67 minutes by a top M21. Obviously no top M21's came to the event so we'll never know what time they would have achieved. I guess Oli Johnson would have done around 75 minutes, so that makes Black about 12% too long (and presumably pro rata on the other courses).

However, as I said, I enjoyed the extra training and the chance to visit this beautiful spot. Thanks.

Great to run again in this lovely place. As always Rebeccas organisation was fab. I enjoyed my course so much I didn't want it to end - which is just as well!
