So
you are thinking about joining an orienteering club! We
hope that you decide to join EPOC and come to enjoy the
sport as much as we do!
EPOC
was formed in 1976 and held its first event at Storthes
Hall, Huddersfield. It now covers Calderdale, Kirklees
and Wakefield and has about 200 members. We belong to the
Yorkshire and Humberside Orienteering Association and the
British Orienteering Federation.
We
organise local orienteering events throughout the year:
Informal events, which are good for people new to the sport,
are held on some Saturdays in the autumn and spring and some
Wednesday evenings in the summer
Colour-coded events that attract other orienteers from the region
Badge events attracting people from all over the north of England.
We
also have a number of weekly training runs to suit all
levels of fitness:
Monday at 6.30pm in Halifax
Wednesday mornings at various locations
Thursday at 7pm in Huddersfield and 6.30pm in Halifax
We
have a few older members who have a wednesday walk, a friday
bike ride and the occasional holiday week away in the Dales.
All
EPOC members are sent a copy of our bi-monthly magazine,
the Epistle, with its up-to-date fixtures list and details
of social events and training runs.
If
you would like to try orienteering before joining EPOC,
you could go to a permanent course the EPOC ones
are listed on the website. The next EPOC events are on
the fixtures list this can also be found on this
site. If you are new to orienteering and would like some
advice at your first events, we have EPOC helpers who can
'show you the ropes'. Just email the club secretary if
you are planning to go and we can arrange for someone to
meet you.
The
is some other useful information on the FAQ sheet. If you want to join EPOC, please
complete and return the Membership Form. If
you need any more information about EPOC, email the club
secretary.
